About Us

Principal Investigator

Henry Brady is a professor in the Political Science department and the School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley. A renowned elections scholar, he is former president of the Political Methodology Group of the American Political Science Association. Brady has co-authored two books: Letting the People Decide: Dynamcs of a Canadian Election (1992), and Voice and Equality: Civic Voluntarism in American Politics (1995) which was recently awarded the Philip Converse Book Award as the most outstanding book in the field of Elections, Public Opinion, and Voting Behavior published five or more years ago. Professor Brady received his Ph.D. in Economics and Political Science from MIT in 1980.

    Co-Investigators

    Doug Spencer is a Doctor of Jurisprudence and Social Policy student and a Master of Public Policy candidate at the University of California, Berkeley. Doug served as Editor-in-Chief of PolicyMatters from 2006-2007. He has worked for the International Finance Corporation at the World Bank as well as the Asian Network for Free Elections as a Monitor of Thailand’s national election in 2005. Doug graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University with a degree in Philosophy.

    Zach Markovits is a second-year Master of Public Policy Candidate at The University of California, Berkeley. Zach has worked as a community organizer in Providence, Rhode Island as well as for the Democratic National Committee and MoveOn PAC as the 2004 Director of their Minneapolis/St. Paul office. Last summer he led a research initiative for the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers in Northern California. Zach graduated from Brown University with a degree in Political Science.

    Jonathan Morris is a second-year Master of Public Policy Candidate at The University of California, Berkeley. Jonny served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine from 2004-2006, focusing on civil society development and human rights education during and after the Orange Revolution. He has been involved in elections issues for many years, spearheading voter registration and Get-Out-The-Vote efforts for students at Duke University and Peace Corps Volunteers serving in Eurasia. Jonny graduated from Duke University with a degree in Political Science.

    Morgan Hanger is a second-year Master of Public Policy Candidate at The University of California, Berkeley. Morgan works at the Center for Health and Public Policy Studies and is the Managing Editor of PolicyMatters. Between her first and second years at the Goldman School of Public Policy she was a Summer Health Associate at the Congressional Budget Office in Washington, DC, and prior to graduate school she worked in the Health Outcomes Research Group at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Morgan graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from New York University with a degree in Political Science.
